Where is Tony Rezko?

With Chicago politics back in the news, I was reminded of one of the weirder political facts of this decade and the last: Tony Rezko, longtime Obama friend and fundraiser, has been held at an undisclosed location while still awaiting sentencing on charges he was convicted of way back in June 2008. A few months ago, I heard a rumor that he was being held at a federal facility in Wisconsin and that he was finally going to be sentenced on January 28, 2011. Then I didn't hear anything more about it because who in the world would be interested in such a mundane topic as the disappearance of the President's real estate adviser?

So I went and looked for news. I found that an NBC Chicago blog reported on January 28, 2011:
Rezko is serving his time at a county jail in Wisconsin.

So, it's not a federal jail in Wisconsin, it's a county jail in Wisconsin. There are 72 counties in Wisconsin.
His lawyer said today that no matter the outcome of his ongoing efforts to obtain a new trial, Rezko remains prepared to testify against Blagojevich at his own retrial in April.

Judge St. Eve set Rezko’s sentencing for October 21.

So, just in case Rezko's sentencing actually happens eight months from now, he will by then have served 39 months in an undisclosed facility between conviction and sentencing. That seems pretty odd.

Not that unusual. If he's a cooperating witness, he may well have a plea agreement on the issue, knows that he's due for more than 39 months regardless, and is willing to wait on sentencing until the DOJ is willing to give him a discount for cooperation.

none of the above said...

Why am I mildly surprised he hasn't found himself at Guantanamo or Bagrham as an "enemy combatant?" Or perhaps at one of those secret ICE jails as a "suspected illegal immigrant?"

This site: https://www.vinelink.com/vinelink/initSearchForm.do?searchType=offender&siteId=50100 supposedly lets you search Wisconsin county jails. I couldn't find anyone named "T. Rezko" or "A. Rezko". Maybe he's not in the system since he hasn't been formally sentenced, or maybe he's in one of Kewaunee, Ozaukee, or Wood counties, which are currently "offline". Or maybe he disappeared.

Interesting post. The NBC blog isn't a reliable source. I wonder if Rezko is really in jail at all?

See http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/where-world-tony-rezko .

The sentencing delay is not surprising if he still hasn't testified, but it's curious that his jail or prison location is secret.

Alex Trebek: "This Chicago real-estate developer is now vacationing with Jimmy Hoffa."

Why hasn't Rezko implicated Obama? I'm sure he has some information on the guy that the prosecutor would find very interesting. With all the wheeling and dealing that Rezko engaged in over the years, I can't believe that he doesn't have something relevant to tell the courts about one of his closest associates.

Perhaps Obama and him cut some sort of deal? It would surprise me, given the nature of Chicago politics and the type of people (Axelrod, Emanuel, Daley) that Obama has allied himself with.

I know that it's been alleged that Obama's team paid off Rev Jeremiah Wright to shut up.

The same reason the prosecutor jumped the gun on the Blagojovich indictment before he had a solid case. Patrick Fitzgerald is a corrupt, unethical political hack.

Maybe Rezko's got O's birth certificate?

Rezko is peanuts - the really serious stuff with Obama consists of:

A) Who murdered Donald Young?

B) And who murdered Lt Quarles Harris Jr?

[Well, that, and NY Fed Governor Timothy Geithner, son of Stanley Ann Dunham's mentor, Peter Geithner, funneling all that hush money to Goldman Sachs, in December 2008, immediately after Goldman Sachs had sabotaged the McCain campaign in September 2008.]

It takes a while for the public to find out what was really going on. For example there was that movie "The Desert Fox" which explained how Rommel was a genius. Everyone accepted it. If anything amateur military historians concluded that Hitler was a fool for only using his most brilliant general in a peripheral theater of operations.

After thirty years or so we discovered that Rommel had had access to British and American intelligence. After that leak was stopped, Rommel began to lose his battles. We also learned the Hitler like him because he was glamorous but the military pros held him in contempt.

Similarly the Obama administration is likely to undergo some major reassessment around 2040 when the facts are finally revealed. Rezko may be a CIA operative living on the Riviera for all we know. Or maybe he's an agent of some Saudi spy ring.

It's like Home Theater. I read your review of Liam Neeson's new movie now in theaters but I will have to wait about six weeks until I can see it for myself. Similarly I have to wait thirty years to fully appreciate Tony Rezko.

Patience.

Where is Tony Rezko? Same place the black-on-white crime stats are. Those who control the media and legal institutions get to decide what is real and what is unreal.

Everything negative that could impact public views of the dirty and outright criminal things Obama had his hand in, mysteriously disappeared. It really shows the influence, reach and power of those who wanted their John Doe in the White House to be elected.

He escaped because his guards were protesting in Madison this past week.
